Reflecting Embedded Virtue; Letters from the Dock #17

Reflecting Embedded Virtue

Hi All,

It is so still and quiet on the bay this morning.  As the pelicans fly close to the water, you can see their perfect reflection.  Leading to thoughts of how we each and all may become, through taking up our called work, a perfect reflection of the unique essence virtue embedded within us… that which we are intended to manifest.  Thoughts turning to Christ in prayer the night before he died… “Father… I glorified you by perfecting the work you gave me to do.”  The pelicans’ reflection is not the pelican, our manifested virtue is not directly our virtue… for that is a strand, a stream of the will of the Father Creator, embedded within.  And, when we answer YES to our calling, our lives – the way we live them, the human being we are and become – are a reflection of our unique, belonging to no other, essence… available forever and to all.

At our Living Beatitude dialogue last evening, we reflected on spirit manifesting, which led to seeing how little stories of one’s taking up and living out their particular called work, opens our eyes to seeing the spirit manifested, making possible our taking it into our own daily living. An example being the story of a Russian hospital in deplorable condition, and its staff asking for help from Mother Teresa.  She surprised all when she and the sisters who often accompanied her, began scrubbing toilets… ultimately having the effect of changing the spirits of all who worked there.  Reflection on stories such as these helps us to see how manifesting spirit – essence virtue embedded within – through taking up called work, changes hearts and minds.

A spirit manifested is available forever and to all.

The background sound of birds singing from their tree perches along the shore is suddenly broken by a dolphin cutting through the still water as it simultaneously exhales a breath of air… graceful, beautiful, somehow always awaking us to the excitement of and appreciation for being alive.  We, like the dolphin, are intended to become fully and truly what we were created to become.  In their case, they naturally fulfill their “dolphin-ness.” In our case, becoming fully and truly human – fulfilling our intended humanness – is a choice… a YES or NO choice.

All for now, Sandra
