at this Time of Potential
It seems like everywhere we look today, we find evidence of our tendency as people to be divisive. Divisiveness is almost like a virus spreading through our nation, our communities, and even at times our families… leading at best to compromise, and seldom to reconciliation – to something higher order. And yet, if we are awake to inner changes, we notice increasing interest in, and sometimes even heartfelt intent to move towards wholeness and away from that which divides. Through faith and/or reflective wisdom, we “see” the truth that we the people can be better than we are today: we have within, the potential to become ever more human in our ways of interacting with one another as well as in our ways of interacting with all of the life processes of earth itself.
To be human is to have choice. We know we are on the path to becoming ever more human when the choices we make are right and good – right for unfolding the created potential of each, and good for the future life of all – the whole of humanity and the whole of life on earth.
“Seeing” right and good choices calls for quieting the seemingly continuous chatter that fills our minds and drowns out the voices of our hearts, making room for reflection and reflective dialogue. Sincere reflection and reflective dialogue calls for letting go of attachment to pre-determined answers and solutions, and opening our hearts to the voice of the Spirit. By so doing, we have the hope of “seeing,” and therefore the choice of doing, the right and good… that which works for all children – all children in the world.
By self-auditing our choices with thoughtful reflection on the two questions,
Does this, which I am about to do, work for all children – all children in the world?
and
Does it advance our humanness?
each and all will enter, and hopefully remain on the path of becoming fully and truly human – as intended.
