“Our Father” (Mt 6:9)… We are, each and all, children of one Common Father, our Creator. Our Father is the Source of life, the Creator of life on earth – as well as the universe that contains earth. Our mother, the earth, is the receiver of the Spirit of life continually flowing from our Common Father. Earth is our mother; the Creator is our Father. We – each and all – are brothers and sisters, called by the Father to love each other. By love flowing through us and among us, we become what we were intended and created to become… by love flowing through us, we cooperate with the unfolding of the potential enfolded in the ongoing creation. For love to flow through us, we make a conscious, deliberate and intentional choice to become instruments such that the Creator might do with us as wished… use us as receptive instruments to fill our uniquely human role in the ongoing creation… the aim of which lives with the Father. Making ourselves choiceful receptive instruments, we become able to fulfill our role in the intended ongoingly unfolding creation, and by so doing, becoming whole, becoming free, becoming complete. Serving our calling, we experience the freedom and joy, the hope and love that are gifts of the Father. Serving the call, we become fully and truly human… and we manifest spirit, spirit that will be available to all of life on earth forever.
The Prayer to the Father tells us we are not the source, but the instrument. The Source dwells in another world; the will of the Source is done in the kingdom of heaven. Yet it is the intent of the Creator that the will be manifest “on earth as in heaven” (Mt 6:10). Earth and life on earth are created to be and become a harmonious living developing whole. We cannot know, for our minds are too small, the aim of this creation called earth. Yet we do know, by the words of Jesus Christ in the teaching prayer to the Father, that we are called to co-operate with the will of the Creator – the will of the Creator for life as a whole on earth – such that earth also becomes a place where the intention of the Creator is made manifest.
There is an intent of creation, a particular yet dramatic way the creation is intended to ongoingly and dynamically unfold… and we are, each and all, through the pattern of our essence, intended to take up work and fill a role in its unfolding. Yes we have a choice… we can choose to live from the pattern of our essence, opening ourselves to the will and love of the Father, or go another way. Uncertainty, as well, is present to the unfolding of creation itself, an unfolding that at the very least relies in part on our willfulness to be open to our instrumentality. Will we make the choice, not just once but ongoingly, out of love, to do “Thy Will”? Will we drink the cup of our calling with our hearts open to the love of the Creator?
